[Part I, cf. the review above.] Let M be a two-dimensional orientable surface in a four-dimensional orientable Riemannian space V. The spherical map \(g: M\to G_{2,4}(V)\) given by the author in part I determines the maps \(g_ 1: M\to S^+(V),\) \(g_ 2: M\to S^-(V)\) where \(S^+_ x\times S^-_ x=G_{2,4}(T_ xM),\) \(x\in M\), inducing on the surface M metrics with the area forms \(dA_ 1\), \(dA_ 2\). In {\S} I the author proves that \(dA_ i=(K_ E\pm tr \bar B)dA\) where \(K_ E\) is the exterior curvature of M, \((-tr \bar B)\) is the Gaussian torsion of M, dA is the area form of M. The author gives a series of consequences of this result, in particular he shows that \(A_ 1+A_ 2=2\int_{M}K_ E dA\) where \(A_ i=\int_{M}dA_ i.\) In {\S} II the author gives an analogue of the Gauss-Bonnet theorem for the normal bundle of the surface and gets a series of generalizations of theorems due to Blaschke and Chern-Spanier as a consequence.
