      This paper is concerned with the global stability of the Riemann solution containing only contact discontinuities for general quasilinear hyperbolic systems of conservation laws in the presence of a boundary. The global existence and uniqueness of piecewise smooth solutions to the mixed initial-boundary value problem in a half space are studied. Some applications occurring in Physics and other disciplines, particularly to the system describing the motion of the relativistic string in a Minkowski space, are given. Paper may be of interest to someone working on the solution to the Riemann problem.
