Let \(C\) be a smooth projective curve of genus \(g\) over a field \(k\) such that \(C(k)\neq\emptyset\), let \(R\) be a \(\mathbb{Q}\)-algebra, and let \(H^{ss}_{n,d}\) be the moduli space of semistable Higgs bundles of rank \(r\) and degree \(d\) over \(C\), where \(n\) and \(d\) are coprime. Denote by \(\mathrm{DM}^{\mathrm{eff}}(k,R)\) the Voevodsky's category of effective Nisnevich motives over \(k\) with coefficients in \(R\), this is a \(R\)-linear tensor triangulated category, let \(\mathrm{DM}_c^{\mathrm{eff}}(k,R)\) be the subcategory of compact objects. In this paper, the authors studied the motive \(M(H^{ss}_{n,d})\) in \(\mathrm{DM}_c^{\mathrm{eff}}(k,R)\), and they showed the following two main results. Firstly, they showed \(M(H^{ss}_{n,d})\) lies in the thick tensor subcategory \(\langle M(C)\rangle^{\otimes}\) of \(\mathrm{DM}_c^{\mathrm{eff}}(k,R)\) generated by \(M(C)\), i.e, the motive of \(C\). Secondly, when \(\mathrm{char}(k)=0\), they showed the motive nonabelian Hodge correspondence, namely a canonical isomorphism \(M(H^{ss}_{n,d})\simeq M(M^{\mathrm{dR}}_{n,d})\) in \(\mathrm{DM}^{\mathrm{eff}}(k,R)\), where \(M^{\mathrm{dR}}_{n,d}\) is the moduli space of logarithmic connections on \(C\) with fixed residue \(-\frac{d}{n}\mathrm{Id}\) at a base point \(x\in C\). Some other interesting results are also obtained in this paper.
