The paper under review contributes to questions on Lipschitz equivalence of semialgebraic sets. There are different notions of Lipschitz equivalence. Two sets are called Lipschitz inner equivalent if there is a bi-Lipschitz map between the two sets with respect to the inner metric. They are called Lipschitz outer equivalent if there exists a bi-Lipschitz map with respect to the outer metric. And they are called ambient Lipschitz equivalent if there exists a bi-Lipschitz map with respect to the outer metric that can be extended as a bi-Lipschitz map to the ambient space. Here the relation between the outer equivalence relation and the ambient one is investigated. The main results are the following: Let \(X\) be a closed semialgebraic set of dimension \(k\). If \(n\geq 2k+1\) then there is a bi-Lipschitz and semialgebraic embedding of \(X\) into \(\mathbb{R}^n\). If \(n\geq 2k+2\) then this embedding is unique (up to a bi-Lipschitz and semialgebraic homeomorphism of \(\mathbb{R}^n\)). Also local and complex algebraic versions of these results are given.
