    The authors discuss fixed point theorems for the operator class mentioned in the title. The abstract result is illustrated by an application to the fourth-order problem \[ \begin{cases} x^{(4)}(t)= f(t), x(t), x(t))\quad(0<t<1),\\ x(0)= x'(0)= 0,\quad x''(1)=0,\\ x'''(1)= g(x(1), x(1)),\end{cases} \] where \[ f(t,u,v)= \frac{t^4+ 2t^3+ t^2 u^{1/2}}{t(v^{1/3}+1)+ v^{1/3}(t^2+ u^{1/3})} \] and \[ g(u, v)=-\left(\frac{u}{v(u+1)}\right)^{1/5}\ (u,v> 0) \] which models the oscillation behaviour of an elastic beam.
