The main result of this paper is that a finite group that is isospectral to a finite simple classical group does not have the exceptional simple groups of Lie types \(E_{7}\) and \(E_{8}\) as composition factors. Recall that two groups are isospectral if they have the same spectrum (the set of element orders).
