In the paper under review the author presents the construction of a finite non-degenerate ribbon tensor category, called a log-modular tensor category, which is regarded as a canonical form for a small quantum group at an even root of unity \(q\). Let \(G\) be an almost simple algebraic group over \(\mathbb C\) with Lie algebra \(\mathfrak g\) and let \(\operatorname{rep} G_q\) be the category of finite-dimensional representations of Lusztig's divided power algebra \(U_q (\mathfrak g)\) graded by the character lattice of \(G\), the associated category of quantum group representations. For an appropriate almost simple dual group \(G^\vee\) of \(G\), and under certain restrictions on \(G\), the mentioned log-modular category is the de-equivariantization \((\operatorname{rep} G_q)_{G^\vee}\) of \(\operatorname{rep} G\) by the image of \(\operatorname{rep} G^\vee\) under Lusztig's quantum Frobenius (braided) tensor embedding \(\operatorname{Fr}: \operatorname{rep} G^\vee \longrightarrow \operatorname{rep} G_q\). The description of a ribbon quasi-Hopf algebra \(u_q^M(G)\) whose representation category if \((\operatorname{rep} G_q)_{G^\vee}\) is also given and it is shown that it can be identified with the quantum groups considered by \textit{T. Creutzig} et al. [Commun. Contemp. Math. 22, No. 3, Article ID 1950024, 71 p. (2020; Zbl 07190500)] for type A1, and by \textit{A. M. Gainutdinov} et al., [``Modularization of small quantum groups''; Preprint, \url{arXiv:1809.02116}] for arbitrary type. Conjectural relations with vertex operator algebras are discussed.
