Stratifying Lie strata of Hilbert modular varieties (Q2663370)

This article is a summary of the authors' results on stratifications of a Hilbert modular variety \(\mathcal{M}_E\) in characteristic \(p>0\). Over here \(E\) is a totally real number field. Complete definitions and statements of results are included. Proofs of these results are not included and have not yet been published; they are available in draft chapters of a book available on the authors' website. The \textit{congruity stratification} described in this article is a generalization to the case where \(E\) is ramified over \(p\) of stratifications previously studied in the unramified case. It has the property that certain strata called \textit{distinguished central leaves} are irreducible whenever they are not supersingular. The key motivation is to prove a conjecture on Hecke orbits for Siegel modular varieties.
