Consider the third-order Benjamin-Ono equation on the torus: \[ \displaystyle{\partial_t u = \partial_x\left(-\partial_{xx}u - \frac{3}{2}uH\partial_x u - \frac{3}{2}H(u\partial_x u) + u^3\right)}. \] The following are the main results of the paper: (1) Global well-posedness threshold: for all \(s\geq 0\) the flow map defined for finite gap potentials admits a unique continuous extension to \(H_{r,o}^s(T)\) in the sense that there exists a unique solution map \(S:H_{r,o}^s(T)\mapsto C(R,H_{r,o}^s(T))\) such that it is continuous and for all \(t\in \mathbb{R}\) the flow map \(S^t:H_{r,o}^s(T)\mapsto H_{r,o}^s(T)\) coincides with the flow map for finite gap potentials. (2) Sequential weak continuity for the flow map: the extension of the flow map is weakly sequentially continuous in \(H_{r,o}^s(T)\) for \(s>0\) but is not weakly sequentially continuous in \(L^2_{r,0}(T)\). Some other results concerning the classification of traveling waves and their orbital stability are presented.
