For a g.o. manifold, each geodesic is the orbit of a one-parameter group of transformations. G.o. manifolds were studied in many works in Riemannian, pseudo-Riemannian, affine or Finsler geometry. The existence and the form of an invariant g.o. metric on a homogeneous space \(G/H\) depends on the properties of the isotropy representation of \(H\) on \(T_pM\) and algebraic relations between the corresponding sumodules. In the present paper, homogeneous spaces with classical group \(G\) either \({\mathrm{SO}}(n)\) or \({\mathrm{U}}(n)\) and \(H\) a diagonally embedded product \(H_1\times\dots\times H_n\) with \(H_i\) of the same type as \(G\) are studied and g.o. metrics on them are determined. G.o. spaces \({\mathrm{Sp}}(n)/{\mathrm{Sp}}(n_1)\times\dots\times {\mathrm{Sp}}(n_s)\) were studied in another work by the same authors.
