This paper considers the question of whether an arbitrary dynamical system admits a Hamiltonian formulation. The authors call this the ``hamiltonization problem''. In the context of Poisson geometry, this becomes the question of finding a scalar function \(h\) and a Poisson structure \(\pi\) on a manifold \(M\) with vector field \(X\) such that \(X = \pi (dh, \cdot)\). When such a structure \(\pi\) and function \(h\) exist, the vector field \(X\) is said to be hamiltonizable on \(M\). The authors take a geometric approach to study the problem for vector fields. They show that hamiltonization is possible for vector fields on orientable manifolds with sufficiently many first integrals. In particular, they prove that such vector fields on an \(m\)-dimensional manifold with \(m-1\) first integrals are Hamiltonian with respect to \(m-1\) Poisson structures defined on an open set where the first integrals are independent. Furthermore, necessary and sufficient conditions are provided to guarantee that a vector field is hamiltonizable by a Poisson structure of the form \(\pi = Y \wedge X\) for some vector field \(Y\) on \(M\). The authors also discuss some solutions for the hamiltonization problem for Lie groups actions where the Lie group is a low-dimensional torus.
