The authors prove the existence of a ground state solution for a maghentic Choquard equation with critical exponential growth. They establish an energy estimate involving convolution terms and use a non-Nehari manifold method developed in the paper of \textit{X. Tang} [Sci. China, Math. 58, No. 4, 715--728 (2015; Zbl 1321.35055)].
