The algebras in the paper are considered over a field \(F\). The author studies the behaviour of \(d\)-free sets under tensor products. It is well known that if \(A\), \(R\), \(S\) are algebras, \(A\) a subalgebra of \(R\), and \(A\) is a \(d\)-free subset of \(R\) then \(A\otimes S\) is \(d\)-free in \(R\otimes S\). More can be said in the case \(S\) unital and \(\dim S<\infty\). The author proves in this case that if \(X\) is a \(d\)-free subset of the algebra \(R\) then \(\{x\otimes s\mid x\in X,\;s\in S\}\) is \(d\)-free in \(R\otimes S\). This result produces a large class of examples of \(d\)-free sets. Moreover the author shows that \(\dim S<\infty\) is really necessary. He gives an example of a non-unital simple algebra \(A\). It is \(d\)-free in \(R\), for every \(d\geq 1\) but \(A\otimes F[\xi]\) is not 2-free in \(R\otimes F[\xi]\).NEWLINENEWLINE In the last section of the paper the author considers some important functional identities in the case \(\dim S=\infty\). These include the so called one sided identities. Under a mild restriction it is proved that these admit only trivial solutions. Applications concerning Lie isomorphisms of tensor products are given as well.
