It is a survey on the ultradifferentiable extension theorems (in connection to classical Whitney's extension theorem). First, it is treated the extension theorem for Denjoy-Carleman classes. Then, such problem is discussed for Braun-Meise-Taylor classes, which is based on the description of these classes as an intersections and unions of the Denjoy-Carleman classes in terms of an associated family of weighted sequences. All ultradifferentiable classes considred in the paper are of two types, namely Beurling type and Roumieu type. The survey article arose from notes of the mini-courses given at the School of Real Geometry in Fortalenza, Brasil, May 24--28, 2021 [\url{https://sites.google.com/view/scregefor2020/}]. An extended list of references on the subject is supplied at the article.
