The paper focuses on the following fact: if a function is a solution of two linear functional equations (with two sufficiently different operators) then it is trivial. Examples of such equations and operators are: \(f(z) \mapsto f(z+h)\) and \(f(z) \mapsto f(z+h')\) (where \(h\) and \(h'\) are sufficiently independent complex numbers), \(f(z) \mapsto f(qz)\) and \(f(z) \mapsto f(q'z)\) (where \(q\) and \(q'\) are sufficiently independent complex numbers) and \(f(z) \mapsto f(z^p)\) and \(f(z) \mapsto f(z^q)\) (where \(p\) and \(q\) are sufficiently independent integers). The three mentioned cases are called shift, \(q\)-difference and Mahler, respectively. The authors consider the above mentioned fact in the \(q\)-difference and Mahler cases using the framework of difference modules. They also study a new case mixing \(q\)-difference and Mahler operators.
