In recent years signs of Fourier coefficients of automorphic forms have received a lot of attention. The paper under review studies signs of \(\lambda_f(n) \lambda_g(n)\), where \(\lambda_f(n)\) and \(\lambda_g(n)\) are Fourier coefficients of two distinct Hecke-Maass cusp forms \(f\) and \(g\) of weight zero for the full modular group. First they show that, for any \(\delta > 0\) and any sufficiently large \(x\), the sequence \(\lambda_f(n) \lambda_g(n)\) changes its sign at least \(x^{1/16-\delta}\) times in the dyadic interval \((x, 2x]\). Second the authors improve on a previous upper bound [\textit{M. Kumari} and \textit{J. Sengupta}, Ramanujan J. 55, No. 1, 205--218 (2021; Zbl 1469.11102)] for the size of the first \(n\) for which \(\lambda_f(n) \lambda_g(n)\) is negative. In the proofs the authors use similar methods as previous authors on related topics, i.e., they make a counter assumption that there are no sign changes and then use Perron's formula and properties of relevant \(L\)-functions to show contradictory upper and lower bounds for certain sums involving \(\lambda_f(n) \lambda_g(n)\).
