    Let \[ \Delta^t_h f(x) = \sum^\infty_{j=0} (-1)^j \binom{t}{j} f\big( x + (t-j)h \big), \] \(t>0\), be the fractional differences, generalizing \(\Delta^1_h f(x) = f(x+h) - (x)\) and \(\Delta^{m+1}_h f = \Delta^1_h \Delta^m_h f\), \(m \in \mathbb N\). Let \(1 \le p <\infty\) and \(0<s<t\). Then \[ \| f \, | \dot{W}^s_p (\mathbb R^n) \|_t = \Big( \int_{\mathbb R^{2n}} \frac{|\Delta^t_h f(x) |^p}{|h|^{n+sp}} \, dx \,dh \Big)^{1/p} \] are equivalent (semi-)norms of the special homogeneous Besov space \(\dot{B}^s_{p,p} (\mathbb R^n) = \dot{W}^s_p (\mathbb R^n)\). The paper deals typically with the problem what happens if \(s \uparrow t\) or \(s \downarrow 0\). This extends related limiting assertions obtained by the persons mentioned in title to the fractional case.
