The article has two main objectives. Firstly, it address and solve the question of when a smooth, polarized hyperelliptic variety \((X, L)\) is such that the map induced by \(|L|\), \(\phi_{|L|}:=\phi: X\to Y\subseteq \mathbb{P}(|L|)\cong \mathbb{P}^N\) deforms to a birational map, this is done for the previously unresolved cases of \((X, L)\) being of Fano-\(K3\) type or having dimension \(m\geq 2\), sectional genus \(g\), and \(L^m=2g\). The Fano-\(K3\) case yields all \((X, L)\) deformations as hyperelliptic, except if \(Y\) is a hyperquadric. However, in the case of \(L^m=2g\), with one exception, a general deformation of \(\phi\) is a birational morphism. Secondly, the paper introduces and studies the deformation of ``generalized hyperelliptic varieties.'' The study provides answers to the deformation question for generalized hyperelliptic polarized Fano and Calabi-Yau varieties and those of general type, including the case when \(Y\) is toric. The authors introduce new methods and techniques that build on their previous work on deformations of finite morphisms and the existence and smoothing of specific multiple structures. A new general result on the unobstructedness of morphisms that factor through a double cover is also proven and applied to the case of generalized hyperelliptic varieties.
