A simulated annealing based procedure is proposed as an alternative to the SYMPRES method [\textit{J. M. F. Berge, P. A. Bekker} and \textit{H. A. L. Kiers}, J. Classif. 10, 115-124 (1993; Zbl 0775.62148)]. Some numerical examples are used for arguing on the similarity of the new method with SYMPRES.
