Let \(T\) be a bounded operator on a complex Banach space \(X\) and let \(\Gamma\) be a non-empty subset of the complex plane. For \(x \in X\), the authors denote \(O(\Gamma x,T):= \{ \gamma T^n x : \gamma \in \Gamma, \, n=0,1,2,\dots\}\). The vector \(x\) is called \(\Gamma\)-supercyclic if \(O(\Gamma x,T)\) is dense in \(X\) and \(T\) is called \(\Gamma\)-supercyclic if it admits a \(\Gamma\)-supercyclic vector. With this terminology, \textit{F. León-Saavedra} and \textit{V. Müller} proved in [Integral Equations Oper. Theory 50, No. 3, 385--391 (2004; Zbl 1079.47013)], that a vector \(x\) is hypercyclic for \(T\) if and only if it is \(\mathbb{T}\)-supercyclic for \(T\). Here \(\mathbb{T}\) is the unit circle. On the other hand, \textit{P. S. Bourdon} and \textit{N. S. Feldman} [Indiana Univ. Math. J. 52, No. 3, 811--819 (2003; Zbl 1049.47002)] proved that a vector \(x\) is hypercyclic for \(T\) if and only if the orbit \(O(x,T)\) is somewhere dense in \(X\). Motivated by these results, the purpose of this deep, interesting paper is to present, among others, the following results: {\parindent=8mm \begin{itemize}\item[(1)] A subset \(\Gamma\) of the complex plane satisfies that every operator \(T\) on an infinite dimensional Banach space is hypercyclic if and only if it is \(\Gamma\)-supercyclic precisely if \(\Gamma \setminus \{ 0 \}\) is non-empty, bounded and bounded away from \(0\). \item[(2)] A characterization of those subsets \(\Gamma\) of the complex plane such that \(x\) is hypercyclic for each operator \(T\) on an infinite dimensional Banach space \(X\) if and only if \(O(\Gamma x,T)\) is somewhere dense in \(X\). \item[(3)] A characterization of the subsets \(\Gamma\) of the complex plane for which supercyclicity of \(T\) is equivalent to \(\Gamma\)-supercyclicity, when the point spectrum of the transpose of \(T\) is not empty. \end{itemize}} The article concludes with a list of open problems.
