The term of instantaneous condensation refers to unstable condensates caused by fluctuations and a striking property of this phenomenon is summarized in the Gallavotti-Cohen fluctuation theorem which relates the asymptotic probability of an entropy production to the probability of a negative entropy production of the same absolute value. The main purpose of the present paper is to show that the so-called theory of instantaneous condensation which was developed via a saddle-point analysis to explain some property of this GC system is correct. Namely, the authors propose a probabilistic analysis of the current distribution in the zero-range process. They first bear in mind the zero-range process and grand canonical current conditioning, then they perform the analysis of the current distribution in terms of random walks, and lastly they consider the dynamics of instantaneous condensates.
