An orthogonal (respectively symplectic) bundle \(P\) can be regarded as a vector bundle \(E\) together with a non-degenerate quadratic form (respectively symplectic form) on it. On a \(K3\)-surface \(X\), the authors show that there is a vector bundle \(V\) given by a non-trivial extension of the tangent bundle \(TX\) by \(\mathcal{O}_X\) such that the dual \(V^*\) is a \(\mu\)-semistable (Mumford-Takemoto semistable) vector bundle which is not Gieseker semistable (with \(\mathcal{O}_X\) the destabilising subbundle). A principal bundle (which is not Gieseker semistable) has a unique Harder-Narasimhan filtration, given by reduction to a parabolic subgroup. The vector bundle \(E= V \oplus V^*\) has the Harder-Narasimhan filtration \(0 \subset \mathcal{O}_X \subset V \oplus \mathcal{O}_X \subset V \oplus V^*\). The authors show that this filtration of \(E\) does not correspond to a parabolic reduction of the orthogonal (or symplective) bundle with underlying vector bundle \(E\) and orthogonal (or symplectic) structure given by the pairing between \(V\) and \(V^*\).
