Let \(M\geq 2\) be a dilation factor. For any positive integer \(m\), let \(p_m\) denote the \(M\)-dilated refinement filter of the \(m\)th order cardinal B-spline. By constructing an \(M\)-dual low-pass filter \(a_m\) to the B-spline filter \(p_m\) such that \(a_m\) has \(\ell\)th order sum rules, this paper constructs \(M\)-band spline-wavelet filters having \(\ell\)th order vanishing moments and the shortest possible support. Though such wavelets may not form \(M\)-band biorthogonal wavelets in the space \(L_2(\mathbb{R})\) as in the classical sense, the authors show in Section 4 that such \(M\)-band biorthogonal spline wavelets indeed form biorthogonal wavelets in a pair of Sobolev spaces, which was introduced in [\textit{B. Han} and \textit{Z. Shen}, Constr. Approx. 29, No. 3, 369--406 (2009; Zbl 1161.42018)]. Many interesting examples of such biorthogonal spline wavelets with shortest support and vanishing moments are provided in Section 5. The constructed spline wavelets with shortest support are expected to be useful in both theory and applications.
