The paper has partly a character of an obituary giving a full account of the life and work of J. Šedivý. A detailed descriptions of his organizing capacities concerning the summer schools, his editorial work on the ``History of mathematics and physics in pictures'' as well as a survey of his contributions to the didactics of mathematics have been combined perfectly to produce this paper.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0989.00025].
