A new model of quantum dot light emitting-absorbing devices (English)

A model for a quantum dot coupled to a reservoir of photons and two electric leads (or free fermion reservoirs) is discussed. This ``JCL-model'' builds on the Jaynes-Cummings model (``JC-model'') for a quantum dot without the electric leads. Section 1 is introductory; in Section 2, the authors explain their model and define the ``total'' Hamiltonian \(H\) of the system; it is a perturbation of \(H_0\) describing the same system when the four subsystems (leads, photon resonator and quantum dot) are decoupled. They show that \((H+i)^{-1}-(H_0+i)^{-1}\) is trace class. Consequently, the corresponding scattering operator exists and is unitary and the absolutely continuous parts of \(H\) and \(H_0\) are unitarily equivalent; moreover, \(H\) has no singularly continuous spectrum. In Section 3, the authors derive a Landauer-Büttiker-type formula which is a key tool in their analysis. In Sections 4 and 5, they further derive explicit formulas for the fermion and photon currents which they analyze and show, among other things, that, by adjusting parameters in the JCL-model, one gets either a photon emitting or a photon absorbing device.
