A simple proof of the characterization of functions of low Aviles Giga energy on a ball via regularity (English)

The purpose of the present paper is twofold. First, the author provides a simple proof of a characterization of the minimizers of the Aviles Giga energy on a ball with a sharper estimate. Second, it is given a proof without the trace condition on the gradient. The proof of the main result is based on methods of regularity theory and ordinary differential equations.
