The paper deals with Toeplitz algebras associated with actions of Ore type semigroups on \(C^*\)-algebras. Let \(G\) be a locally compact group and let \(P\subset G\) be a closed subsemigroup containing the identity. If \(PP^{-1}=G\), then \(P\) is called a right Ore semigroup; \(P\) is solid if \(Int(P)\) is dense in \(P\). Let \(A\) be a \(C^*\)-algebra, let \(\alpha:P\to \mathrm{End}(A)\) be a strongly continuous homomorphism where \(\mathrm{End}(A)\) denotes the semigroup of \(^*\)-algebra endomorphisms of \(A\), and let \(E:=A\otimes L^2(P)=L^2(P,A)\). Given the \(C^*\)-algebra \({\mathcal L}_A(E)\) of adjointable operators, let \(\pi:A\to{\mathcal L}_A(E)\) and \(V:P\to{\mathcal L}_A(E)\) be defined by \[ [\pi(x)\xi](a):=\alpha_a(x)\xi(a),\quad [V_b\,\xi](a):=\xi(ab^{-1})\Delta(b)^{-1/2}, \] where \(x\in A\), \(a,b\in P\), \(\xi\in L^2(P,A)\) and \(\Delta(\cdot)\) is the modular function on \(G\). The reduced product of \(A\) by \(P\) denoted by \(A\rtimes_{\mathrm{red},\alpha}P\) is the \(C^*\)-subalgebra of \({\mathcal L}_A(E)\) generated by \(\big\{\int\pi(f(a))V_a\,da:\;f\in C_c(P,A)\big\}\), where \(C_c(P,A)\) denotes the algebra of compactly supported continuous functions on \(P\) with values in \(A\). For \(g\in G\), write \(g=ab^{-1}\) with \(a,b\in P\) and put \(W_g:=V_b^*V_a\). Then \(W_g\) is well defined and the map \(g\mapsto W_g\in{\mathcal L}_A(E)\) is strictly continuous for all \(g\in G\). The \(C^*\)-subalgebra \(\mathfrak{T}(A,P,\alpha)\) of \({\mathcal L}_A(E)\) generated by \(\big\{\int\pi(f(g))W_g\,dg:\;f\in C_c(G,A)\big\}\) is called the Toeplitz algebra. The \(C^*\)-algebra \(A\rtimes_{\mathrm{red},\alpha}P\) is studied in the following two cases of actions \(\alpha\): injective and surjective. It is shown that \(A\rtimes_{\mathrm{red},\alpha}P\) coincides with \(\mathfrak{T}(A,P,\alpha)\) in these two cases. The theory of groupoid dynamical systems is used to represent the Toeplitz algebra as a groupoid crossed product. The Morita equivalence and the \(K\)-theory of the Toeplitz algebra are discussed with examples.
