In this paper, the authors discuss the singularity confinement property, i.e., the discrete analogue of the singularity analysis or Painlevé test for continuous dynamical systems, for a matrix version of the discrete Painlevé I equation introduced in [\textit{G. A. Cassatella-Contra} and \textit{M. Mañas}, Stud. Appl. Math. 128, No. 3, 252--274 (2012; Zbl 1246.33003)]. They show that the singularity confinement property does hold generically for this discrete matrix equation by using the technique of Schur complements.
