In this interesting article, the authors investigate whether the differential operators \(P(D)\), with \(P(z)\) a non-constant polynomial, have a frequently hypercyclic subspace on the Fréchet space \(H(\mathbb{C})\) of entire functions on the complex plane. A frequently hypercyclic operator \(T\) on a Fréchet space \(X\) is said to possess a frequently hypercyclic subspace if there exists an infinite-dimensional closed subspace of \(X\) in which each non-zero vector is frequently hypercyclic for \(T\). This notion was investigated for the first time by \textit{A. Bonilla} and \textit{K. G. Grosse-Erdmann} [Monatsh. Math. 168, No. 3--4, 305--320 (2012; Zbl 1290.47007)]. They asked the following question: Do the operators \(P(D)\), with \(P(z)\) a non-constant polynomial, have a frequently hypercyclic subspace on \(H(\mathbb{C})\)? The aim of this paper is to give a negative answer to this problem. The main theorem in the paper gives a family of frequently hypercyclic operators that have a hypercyclic subspace but not a frequently hypercyclic subspace. These natural examples are simpler than the original ones with these properties due to \textit{Q. Menet} [Proc. Am. Math. Soc. 143, No. 6, 2469--2477 (2015; Zbl 1310.47010)]. In the main step of the proof, a general criterion for an operator on a Fréchet space ensuring the non-existence of frequently hypercyclic subspaces is given. It is applied to study under which conditions a weighted shift on a Köthe sequence space does not possess a frequently hypercyclic subspace.
