Let \(C\) be a smooth complex curve of genus \(g>1\). For all positive integers \(d\), \(n\), and \(k\) let \(B(n,d,k)\) (resp. \(\widetilde{B}(n,d,k)\)) be the Brill-Noether locus of rank \(n\) stable (resp. semistable) vector bundles on \(C\) with \(\deg (E) =d\) and \(h^0(E)\geq k\) (resp. \(h^0(\mathrm{gr}(E))\geq k\)). For which \(n\), \(d\), \(k\) these sets are non-empty is know only if \(g\leq 3\), for hyperelliptic curves and for bielliptic curves. For arbitrary \(C\) and \(g\) there are some necessary conditions and some sufficient conditions (highly non-trivial). If \(g=4\), almost everything is known ([\textit{H. Lange} and \textit{P. E. Newstead}, ``Higher rank Brill-Noether theory for curves of genus \(4\)'', accepted in Commun. Algebra, \url{doi:10.1080/00927872.2016.1251938}]). This paper gives an almost complete answer for the case \(g=5\) (depending of course on the Clifford index of \(C\)). They give necessary conditions for the existence distinguishing several cases depending on \(n\), \(d\) and \(k\) and prove existence in most cases. The authors remark that no simple answer is expected for arbitrary genus.
