In this article the authors provide a negative answer to the question of whether tightness implies nonvanishing of the Heegaard Floer contact invariant for contact manifolds supported by planar open book decompositions. In particular, starting with any overtwisted contact manifold \((M,\xi)\) and any compatible planar open book decomposition, they construct an infinite family of tight, planar, nonfillable contact manifolds with vanishing Heegaard Floer contact invariant such that admissible transverse surgery on a link in these manifolds recovers \((M,\xi)\). Moreover, they also exhibit an infinite family of universally tight, planar, nonfillable contact manifolds with vanishing Heegaard Floer contact invariant, where each of the members is hyperbolic.
