Recall that a Klein surface \(X\) is a surface endowed with a dianalytic structure, that is, \(X\) is a quotient \(R/\tau\), where \(R\) is a Riemann surface and \(\tau\) is an orientation-reversing automorphism of it, refered to as a `symmetry'. Such a surface is said to be `\(q\)-hyperelliptic' if it admits an order-2 automorphism \(\phi\) such that the quotient \(X/\langle\phi\rangle\) has topological genus \(q\). In this paper the authors determine the automorphism groups of non-orientable 1-hyperelliptic surfaces with boundary and algebraic genus strictly greater than 5, the case in which that algebraic genus is 5 or less having already been done elsewhere in the literature. The precise statement of the main results is long and technical and thus omitted in this review. Much of the paper is concerned with discussing these surfaces in terms of non-Euclidean crystallographic groups.
