    Fractional wavelets are constructed from a mother wavelet \(\psi\) by translation, dilation, and modulation [\textit{J. Shi} et al., Sci. China, Inf. Sci. 55, No. 6, 1270--1279 (2012; Zbl 1245.94047)]. In the present paper, this concept is generalized to an extreme degree. Given parameters \(p \geq 1\), \(\nu \geq 0\), \(\mu \in {\mathbb R}\), the mother wavelet \(\psi\) must satisfy \[ \int_0^\infty |\psi(t)|^p \, t^{\frac{\mu+\nu}{2}} \,dt< \infty. \] For parameters \(a>0\) (translation ), \(b \geq 0\) (dilation), and \(0<\alpha< \pi\) (modulation), define \[ \psi_{b,a,\alpha}(t) = a^{-\mu-1} e^{i(\frac{1}{a}-1)(t+b)\cot\alpha} \gamma_{\nu,\mu}^\alpha \int_0^\infty D_{\nu,\mu,\alpha}(\frac{b}{a},\frac{t}{a},z) e^{i z \cot\alpha} z^{\frac{\mu+\nu}{2}} \psi(z) \,dz, \] where \[ D_{\nu,\mu,\alpha}(t,\omega,z) = \frac{(\gamma_{\nu,\mu}^\alpha)^* \Delta^{2\nu-1} e^{-i(t+\omega+z) \cot\alpha}}{2^{2\nu} (\csc\alpha)^{3\mu-\nu+2}(t\omega z)^{\frac{\nu+\mu}{2}} \Gamma(\nu + 1/2) \sqrt{\pi}}. \] Here \(\Delta\) is the area of the triangle with sides \(t\), \(\omega\), \(z\) (or zero, if such a triangle does not exist), and \[ \gamma_{\nu,\mu}^\alpha = \frac{e^{i(\nu+1)(\alpha - \frac{\pi}{2})}}{ (\sin\alpha)^{\mu+1}}. \] The authors then define a fractional (continuous) wavelet transform based on this. They derive many properties, including Parseval relations, inversion formulas, and connections to two fractional Hankel-Clifford transformations. These transformations, described by similarly complicated formulas, were introduced in [\textit{A. Prasad} and \textit{S. Kumar}, J. Pseudo-Differ. Oper. Appl. 5, No. 3, 411--454 (2014; Zbl 1335.46034)]. Finally, they introduce a fractional wavelet packet transformation, and derive some of its properties.
