The author classifies bifurcations into (i) local (needing analysis around a given point or set of points) (ii) semiglobal (often referred to by others as ``global''; needing analysis around an orbit, e.g., a homoclinic tangency) and (iii) global (not determined by studying a particular orbit, e.g., breakdown of all invariant tori). He gives three numerical examples of systems with such global bifurcations, and states that it is a challenge to find the parameter values at which such bifurcations occur.
