    Let \(M_{m,d}\) be the set of all \(d\)-dimensional planes in the \(m\)-dimensional affine space \(R^m\). In what follows, \(M_{m,d}\) is considered with the induced topology. For a mapping \(f : X \to R^m\), assume \(P(m, d, q) =\{\Pi ^d \in M_{m,d} :\) there exist pairwise distinct points \(x_1, . . . , x_q \in X\) such that \(f(x_1), . . . ,f(x_q) \in \Pi^d\}\). { Conjecture 1.} For any integer \(n, m, d, q\) with \(0 \leq n\), \(0 \leq d\), \(n + d + 1 \leq m\), \(1 \leq q\) and any compact \(X\) with \(\dim(X)\leq n\) the set \(H(n, m, d, q)\) of mappings \(f : X\to R^m\) such that \[ \dim P(m, d, q) \leq n + d(m - d) - (q - 1)(m - n - d) = qn - (q - d - 1)(m - d) \] forms a dense \(G_{\delta}\)-set in the space \(C(X,R^m)\) of all continuous mappings from \(X\) to \(R^m\). In this paper the author examines the Conjecture 1 for the following four cases: 1) \(q = 2\), 2) \(m \geq qn+q -1\), 3) \(d = q - 2\), \(m \geq (q - 1)n + q - 2\), and 4) \(q = 4, d = 1, m = 2n + 1\). In some particular cases he proves that the density of the set of mappings of an \(n\)-dimensional compactum into an \(m\)-dimensional Euclidean space such that the set of all \(d\)-dimensional planes with the preimage cardinality \(\geq q\) has the dimension \(\leq qn - (q- d - 1)(m - d)\).
