In this paper the authors investigate how endomorphisms of certain pure subgroups of the Baer-Specker group can be extended to endomorphisms of the whole group. They then apply this to show that the Baer-Specker group is a weak Crawley group but not a Crawley group. Recall that a torsion-free Abelian group is a Crawley group if for any pair of pure dense subgroups of corank \(1\) in \(G\), there is an automorphism of \(G\) mapping one onto the other. The Baer-Specker group does not have the Crawley property and it is known that for instance the determination of \(\aleph_1\)-free Crawley groups of size \(\aleph_1\) depends on the underlying model of set-theory. The weaker notion of Crawley groups is weak Crawley which just asks for the existence of the above automorphisms for any pair of isomorphic pure dense subgroups.
