In this paper the authors study the rigidity properties of a linear cocycle \(F\) on a vector bundle \(P:\mathcal E\to\mathcal M\) over some partially hyperbolic systems \(f:\mathcal M\to \mathcal M\). Such cocycles over hyperbolic bases have been studied by the authors [Ergodic Theory Dyn. Syst. 29, No. 1, 117--136 (2009; Zbl 1213.37050); J. Mod. Dyn. 4, No. 3, 419--441 (2010; Zbl 1225.37062)]. More precisely, they proved that if the cocycle \(F\) is fiber bunched, then any invariant measurable conformal structure on \(\mathcal E\) is in fact continuous. Under an extra assumption that there is only one Lyapunov exponent, they prove that any measurable invariant sub-bundle of \(\mathcal E\) is continuous. Passing to a finite cover of \(F\) and a proper power, they prove that there exists a flag of continuous invariant bundles \(\{0\}=\tilde\mathcal E^{0}\subset \tilde\mathcal E^{1}\subset\dots\tilde\mathcal E^{i-1}\subset \tilde\mathcal E^{i}\subset \tilde\mathcal E^{k}=\tilde\mathcal E\), and a continuous conformal structure on each factor bundle \(\tilde\mathcal E^{i}/\tilde\mathcal E^{i-1}\), \(i=1,\dots, k\). Note that the cocycles with more than one Lyapunov exponents should be the generic case. So the results in this paper provide some evidences that having only one exponent is indeed an exceptional property. They also supplied an example showing that it is necessary to pass to such a cover, since the original object may be twisted together. Finally they got the uniform polynomial growth estimates of the quasi-conformal distortion when the base \(f\) is transitive Anosov and \(\lambda_+(F,\mu_p)=\lambda_-(F,\mu_p)\) for the invariant measure \(\mu_p\) on any periodic orbit \(p\) of \(f\).
