Dirac-harmonic maps couple a harmonic map with a spinor field. Let us recall briefly the definition. Let \(\Phi:M\to N\) be a map between Riemannian manifolds, where \(M\) is a spin manifold with a spinor bundle \(\Sigma M\) equipped with a Hermitian metric. The compatible Levi-Civita conection on \(\Sigma M\) and the pull-back connection on \(\Phi^{-1}TN\) induce a connection on the tensor product \(\Sigma M\otimes \Phi^{-1}TN\). Thus for any section of this bundle we may define in a natural way a Dirac operator \(D\) (along \(\Phi\)). Dirac-harmonic map \((\Phi,\Psi)\) is a critical point of the functional \(L(\Phi,\Psi)=\frac{1}{2}\int_M (|d\Phi|^2+\langle \Psi,D\Psi \rangle)\), where \(\langle,\rangle\) is a metric on \(\Sigma M\otimes \Phi^{-1}TN\) induced from \(\Sigma M\) and \(\Phi^{-1}TN\). The authors obtain gradient estimates and Liouville theorems for such maps under curvature conditions and completeness of \(M\).
