A cluster algebra, as invented by \textit{S. Fomin} and \textit{A. Zelevinsky} [J. Am. Math. Soc. 15, No. 2, 497--529 (2002; Zbl 1021.16017)], is a commutative algebra generated by a family of generators called cluster variables. Cluster categories of Buan-Marsh-Reineke-Reiten-Todorov [\textit{A. B. Buan} et al., Adv. Math. 204, No. 2, 572--618 (2006; Zbl 1127.16011)] are certain categories of representations of finite dimensional algebras which were introduced to ``categorify'' cluster algebras. The Caldero--Chapoton formula was introduced in [\textit{P. Caldero} and \textit{F. Chapoton}, Comment. Math. Helv. 81, No. 3, 595--616 (2006; Zbl 1119.16013)] to formalize the connection between the cluster algebras and the cluster categories. Indeed, the Caldero--Chapoton formula relates for hereditary algebras of Dynkin type the cluster characters of the end terms of an Auslander--Reiten sequence with the cluster character of the middle term. In the paper under review, the authors extended this result to generalized cluster categories with cluster tilting object by considering Auslander--Reiten triangles. The main result is the following theorem:NEWLINENEWLINE{Theorem. } Let \(\mathcal{C}\) be a triangulated 2--Calabi--Yau \(\mathbb{C}\)-category with suspension functor \(\Sigma\) and basic cluster tilting object \(T=T_1\oplus\cdots\oplus T_n\). For an Auslander-Reiten triangle \(\Sigma Z\rightarrow Y\rightarrow Z\rightarrow \Sigma^2 Z\) in \(\mathcal{C}\) we have NEWLINE\[NEWLINE C^T_{\Sigma Z}\cdot C^T_Z= C^T_Y+1, NEWLINE\]NEWLINE where \(C^T_?:\text{Obj}(\mathcal{C})\rightarrow \mathbb{Z}[x_1^\pm,\ldots,x_n^\pm]\) denotes \textit{Y. Palu}'s cluster character [Ann. Inst. Fourier 58, No. 6, 2221--2248 (2008; Zbl 1154.16008)].
