Subspaces of codimension two with large projection constants (Q401077)

This paper is devoted to obtain subspaces of \(\ell_1^{(N)}\) and \(\ell_\infty^{(N)}\) with large minimal projection constants. The authors characterize minimal projections onto subspaces of \(\ell_1^{(N)}\) and \(\ell_\infty^{(N)}\) as convex combinations of certain extremal rank-one operators. Besides, they give a method to construct \(n\)-dimensional subspaces of \(\ell_1^{(N)}\) and \(\ell_\infty^{(N)}\) such that their absolute projection constant is achieved as the relative projection constant in the corresponding space \(\ell_1^{(N)}\) or \(\ell_\infty^{(N)}\). This is applied to give some explicit bounds for projection constants using subspaces of codimension two.
