The author investigates the inversion problem for a linear, discrete time, time-invariant MIMO system of the form \[ \begin{cases} x^{t+1}=Ax^t+B\xi^t \cr y^t=Cx^t\cr\end{cases} \] \(x^t\in\mathbb R^n, y^t, \xi^t\in\mathbb R^\ell,\) that is the problem of recovering an unknown input signal \(\xi\) (possibly with a delay) from the output but without using the initial state value. A constructive solution of this problem can be obtained for systems which have a vector relative degree in Isidori's sense. The author introduces a different definition called column-wise vector relative degree, not reducible to the Isidori's one, and presents a constructive solution of the inversion problem, for systems which satisfy the column-wise vector relative degree condition.
