Given a simplicial complex \(K\) the authors define a new dimension function \(K\text{-Ind}_0\) for the class of Tychonoff topological spaces. This dimension function is a modification of the dimension function \(K\text{-Ind}\) which was introduced (along with the dimension function \(K\text{-Dim}\)) by \textit{V. V. Fedorchuk} in [Mat. Vesn. 61, No.~1, 25--52 (2009; Zbl 1199.54186)]. The dimension function \(K\text{-Ind}_0\) agrees with \(K\text{-Ind}\) for the class of perfectly normal spaces and is higher or equal in general. The authors prove a number of basic facts about \(K\text{-Ind}_0\) including the extensional classification (Theorem 1), a weak form of the countable sum theorem (Proposition 3) and the Hurewicz formula for fully closed maps (Proposition 5). Furthermore, they provide a variety of examples which demonstrate the differences between the three dimension functions mentioned above. The dimensions of some of these examples are computed using the formulas for \(K\text{-Ind}_0(X\diamond Y)\) and \(K\text{-Ind}(X\diamond Y)\) (Theorem 3) where \(X \diamond Y\) denotes the free product or the free resolution of spaces \(X\) and \(Y\) as defined by \textit{V. V. Fedorchuk} in [Sov. Math., Dokl. 15, 505--509 (1974; Zbl 0312.54037); translation from Dokl. Akad. Nauk SSSR 215, 289--292 (1974)].
