For a hyperbolic knot in the \(3\)-sphere, an exceptional Dehn surgery on it yields a non-hyperbolic \(3\)-manifold. It is not an easy task to determine all exceptional surgeries on a hyperbolic knot. The paper under review gives such a complete classification for some class of pretzel knots, which are of type \((-2,p,p)\) with odd \(p\geq 5\). The authors reveal that these knots have no Seifert fibered surgeries. They use an interesting argument involving Rasmussen invariants. Combined with known facts, this implies that these knots admit a single exceptional slope \(4p\), which is a toroidal surgery. In addition, the torus decomposition of the resulting toroidal manifold is examined for a broader class of pretzel knots of type \((-2,p,q)\) with \(5\leq p\leq q\).
