If the impedances of the two segments of a rod are not equal, then the contact point of these two segments generates a series of reflected and passing waves, which are hard to completely describe. However, the task becomes much easily when the densities, the elasticity coefficients, and the lengths of these two segments are chosen so that segments have equal travel time. In this paper, the author presents explicit analytic expressions for the solutions of the discontinuous telegraph equation arising in this case.
