The short article under review presents a nice proof of the fact that \(\mathbb P^3(\mathbb C)\) is the only threedimensional complex contact manifold in the class \(\mathcal C\) with second Betti number one, generalizing hereby the analogous result in the projective setting by \textit{Y.-G. Ye} [``A note on complex projective threefolds admitting holomorphic contact structures'', Invent. Math. 115, No. 2, 311--314 (1994; Zbl 0801.14014)]. Recall that a complex contact manifold is a pair \((X,F)\) where \(X\) is a \((2n+1)\)-dimensional complex manifold and \(F\) a holomorphic subbundle of rank \(2n\) of the holomorphic tangent bundle \(T_X\) such that the natural map \(\bigwedge^2F\rightarrow L:=T_X/F\), \(v\wedge w\mapsto [v,w]+F\), is everywhere non-degenerate. This implies \(K_X=-(n+1)L\). For \(n=1\), \(X\) in class \(\mathcal C\) and \(b_2(X)=1\) it follows moreover that \(X\) is a rationally connected manifold, cf. [\textit{K. Frantzen} and \textit{T. Peternell},``On the bimoeromorphic geometry of compact complex contact threefolds'', in: Faber, Carel (ed.) et al., Classification of algebraic varieties. Based on the conference on classification of varieties, Schiermonnikoog, Netherlands, May 2009. Zürich: European Mathematical Society (EMS). EMS Series of Congress Reports, 277--288 (2011; Zbl 1218.32010)]. The authors show that \(X\) is a simply connected uniruled Moishezon manifold with \(H^q(X,{\mathcal{O}}_X)=0\) for all \(q\geq 1\), and Pic\((X)=\mathbb Z\). With \({\mathcal{O}}_X(1)\) the effective generator of Pic\((X)\) and \(K_X=-2L={\mathcal{O}}_X(-2m)\) it is known that \(1\leq m\leq 2\), and \(m=2\) if and only if \(X=\mathbb P^3(\mathbb C)\). Moreover, \(H^2\big(X,{\mathcal{O}}_X(1)\big)=H^3\big(X,{\mathcal{O}}_X(1)\big)=0\), and \(h^0\big(X,{\mathcal {O}}_X(1)\big)\leq 7\) if \(K_X={\mathcal{O}}_X(-2)\). For these facts see [\textit{J. Kollár}, ``Flips, flops, minimal models, etc.'', Surv. Differ. Geom., Suppl. J. Diff. Geom. 1, 113--199 (1991; Zbl 0755.14003)]. The possibility \(m=1\) is excluded by putting the above data into the Riemann-Roch-Hirzebruch formula.
