Transmission problems of parabolic-hyperbolic type arise naturally in physics and engineering in different kinds. One kind is the vanishing or sign-vanishing of a coefficient, the other kind is an interface problem. A model example of the second kind is analysed and an efficient finite difference scheme is then constructed. Existence and uniqueness of the model problem are proved as well as the convergence of the difference scheme.
