Let \(X\) be a smooth projective curve of genus \(g \geq 2\) over the field of complex numbers and assume that \(X\) admits a faithful action of a finite group \(G\). For any irreducible representation \(W_i\) of \(G\), there is a uniquely determined central idempotent of \(\mathbb{Q}[G]\) denoted \(e_{W_i}\) which defines an abelian subvariety \((JX)_{W_i}:=\text{Im}(n e_{W_i})\) of \(JX\) (called \textit{an isotypical component}) where \(n\) is any positive integer such that \(n e_{W_i} \in \text{End}(JX)\). The aim of the article is to show how to compute the type of the induced polarization (from the canonical polarization) on the isotypical components of \(JX\). This can be simply done, if one has identified the sublattice defining \((JX)_{W_i}\) in terms of a symplectic basis of the period lattice of \(JX\). Hence the authors need a representation of the action of \(G\) on this basis. This is actually achieved in a preprint `hyperbolic polygons and symplectic representations for group actions on Riemann surfaces' when \(G\) is such that the quotient \(X/G\) is of genus \(0\). As applications, they obtain new families of Prym-Tyurin varieties (i.e. the induced polarization is \(e\)-times a principal polarization) and examples of completely decomposable isotypical components (i.e. which are product of elliptic curves). As a corollary of this last application, they improve the results of \textit{J. Paulhus} [Acta Arith. 132, No. 3, 231--244 (2008; Zbl 1142.14017)].
