The authors study entropy solutions to the Cauchy problem for the viscous conservation law \[ \partial_t u+\partial_x[F(x,t,u)]=\lambda u_{xx}, \quad (x,t)\in\mathbb{R}\times (0,T), \] with initial data \(u(\cdot,0)=u_0\), where \(\lambda\geq 0\) and the flux \(F(x,t,u)\) is assumed to be merely continuous with respect to the last variable \(u\). The existence and uniqueness of entropy solutions are established through the vanishing viscosity method and the doubling variables techniques. The authors also prove the stability of entropy solutions with respect to both initial data and flux functions.
