The connections between the Zariski and the Markov topology and the affine topology on a linear group and related questions (as Hausdorff embedded subgroups, Markov embedded subgroups and Zariski embedded subgroups) are studied. In particular, the authors prove that a solvable, divisible group which admits a precompact Hausdorff group topology is necessarily abelian. Afterwards, properties of the semidirect product \(K^*\ltimes V\) (where \(V\) is a vector space over the field \(K\)) and the Heisenberg group are studied depending on the field \(K\) and the dimension of \(V\) over \(K\) (in the first case). In particular, the elementary sets (which give rise to the Zariski topology) are explicitly determined and the combinatorial dimensions are calculated. Moreover, certain subgroups are studied and it is figured out under which conditions they are Hausdorff/Markov/Zariski embedded.
