In the paper under review the authors introduce a family of \(3\)-term recurrence relations for certain classes of finite-dimensional modules over quantum affine algebras, generalizing the so-called \(T\)-systems. They call such recursions \textit{extended \(T\)-systems}. To this end, they use the theory of \(q\)-characters. The paper deals mainly with types A and B. In these cases the so-called minimal affinization modules and the snake modules are thin and special, that is, the Cartan part of the quantum affine algebra acts semisimply. Explicit computation of their \(q\)-characters was obtained in type A in the papers [J. Reine Angew. Math. 496, 181--212 (1998; Zbl 0885.17009)] and [Sel. Math., New Ser. 8, No. 4, 537--635 (2002; Zbl 1034.17009)] by \textit{M. Nazarov} and \textit{V. Tarasov} and Frenkel and Mukhin, respectively, and in type B in [``Path description of type B \(q\)-characters'', preprint \url{arXiv:1103.5873}, see Adv. Math. 231, No. 2, 1119--1150 (2012; Zbl 1323.17015)], by the present authors.
